Next Steps & Recommendations

Next steps

  • Account for up to 2ft RSLR in the short-term design and 5ft RSLR in the long-term planning of high-risk resources.
  • Utilize lower, less conservative RSLR projections in planning of low-risk resources.
  • Montior and re-evaluate SLR hazards on a regular basis.
  • Maintain flexibility in SLR adaptation strategies.
  • Develop a climate adaptation plan that utilizes the finding of this vulnerability assessment to:
    • Employ a phased RSLR adaptation approach.
    • Maintain flexibility in SLR adaptation strategies.
    • Coordinate RSLR adaptation efforts with regional initiatives.
    • Seek and attempt to maximize potential hazard mitigation co-benefits.

Recommendations

  • Implementing flood mitigation measures in low-lying surrounding drainage canals within the study area and surrounding areas.
  • Mitigating projected flood hazards for low-lying areas of I5.
  • Improving flood mitigation efforts at the Central Wastewater Treatment Plant as necessary to account for the compounding effects of increased coastal and fluvial flood projections dur to RSLR and changes in regional hydrology.
  • Incorporating climate hazards into existing hazard and ecological monitoring and management efforts.
